Citrus & Confetti Styled Shoot ::: HOWL in Long Beach
Our initial inspiration for this shoot was brilliant, zesty citrus colors paired with a fun, laid-back wedding vibe. HOWL, in Long Beach, CA, was the perfect venue with its hip and modern ambience. The historic citrus packing house feel of the brick and concrete walls served as the perfect blank slate for our juicy pops of color, lights, and balloons! Marisa Peterson of Peterson Design & Photography and Erin Hansen of Erin Hansen Events & Designs were seeking vivid color pairings matched with beautiful calligraphy elements and playful balloon, floral and lighting installations, and thus “Citrus & Confetti” was born! We wanted to create inspiration for the daring couple who are looking for an adventurous aesthetic for their big day.
For the stationery we wanted something fresh and modern. Ink Topiary designed the perfect suite, with the long horizontal invite contrasting with the circular shapes of the balloons, fruit, and confetti. Alyssa of Fawn Lettering, whose work was one of the unifying elements in this shoot, added her special touch to our stationery suite with her gorgeous calligraphy. Candace and her sweetie Nick were our real life couple and brought their playful energy and unique look to our shoot. Yara of Nixey Artistry created a contemporary hair and makeup look for our tattooed bride with stellar lashes, bright lips, loose curls and a sassy side braid. We didn’t want an ordinary wedding gown or suit for this editorial – enter Maggie Sottero and Stitch and Tie! The bride’s boisterous and flirty dress (with a touch of bridal bling), beaded crown, and peachy pink cathedral length veil by Julie of Julie Harris Designs complemented the groom’s modern, metropolitan teal tux. Oh, and who doesn’t love the custom socks by Sock Prints? Fully customizable, these fun socks added an extra dose of punchy flair to the groom’s attire. The bride’s bold green peridot ring from Brilliant Earth and the groom’s wood inlaid rose gold ring from King Will topped off the couple’s wedding looks with an extra touch of luxury. When it came to florals, we needed punchy colors, tropical greenery, and – of course – citrus fruits! Shelley of Here Comes the Blooms worked her magic with flowers provided by Blooms by the Box, tying it all together with her beautiful arrangements and personals.
Big, bold, and bright was a common theme throughout the shoot, and it was especially present in our ceremony design! Lights for Nights provided their huge light-up letters, which paired perfectly with Balloonzilla’s asymmetric balloon installation. It created such an marvelous backdrop for the “I do’s!” Donning snazzy sunglasses, our couple spent their post ceremony moments soaking up the California sun around the venue exteriors and basking in the glow of Lights For Nights’ HOWL venue sign. Party Pieces by Perry provided plush vignette nooks with the perfect pieces of vintage furniture to relax with a cool drink. Also, have you ever seen a balloon escort display? Fawn Lettering, Erin Hansen, and Balloonzilla dreamed up this delightful way to find your table at the reception.
Tropical brights, merry balloons, and unique Edison light fixtures were the focal point of our tablescape. The custom designed laser-cut coaster place cards by The Duo Studio doubled as favors for the guests. Vibrant stoneware plates, lush cut glass, and luxurious rose gold flatware from Classic Party perfected the table settings, and Ink Topiary’s menus, QT’s Pretty Little Things’ ombre napkins and the lavish florals completed the scene. The cake had to be cheerful, expressive, and have confetti (of course!), and Nicole at Nicole Bakes Cakes delivered! With a trendy hot pink drip design paired with watercolor frosting, the cake was finished with citrus accents and a rose gold laser-cut topper, all resting on another gorgeous ombre linen. Our final send off for our couple was a vibrant confetti toss, complete with massive balloons featuring Fawn Lettering’s rose gold calligraphy.
Zesty, vivid and electrifying! Oh so much fun!
